Nadia and Carol

Nadia Comaneci is a Romanian gymnast (born 12 November 1961 in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej (now Onesti] Romania). She was the first person to reach a flawless 10 in an Olympic event. Bela Karalyi discovered Comaneci in the age group of six. She later became Romania's gymnastics instructor. Her first competition was at the national junior championships of 1969 and finished 13th. She did well in the 1970 competition. She took home three golds at her first competition at a pre-Olympic junior meet in 1972, which was a communist bloc countries. In 1973 and 1974, she became the all-around junior champion. She won against Russian Lyudmila Torishcheva. She was a five-time European Champion at her first international senior championship in 1975. At this competition, she won four golds and a silver. She was the winner of the American Cup in New York City in 1976 becoming the first woman to attempt a backward double salto as dismounting off the unbalanced parallel bars. As a teenager, she began performing in travelling shows such as Ice Capades as a skater alongside her younger sister Nina Wayne. Carol Marie Wayne was born on September 6 1942 in Chicago Illinois US. Carol started her career in the field of entertainment in her teens. As a young girl, she began performing as an ice skater with Nina Wayne in the travelling show of entertainment Ice Capades. The shows featured skating on ice and included staged performances.
